Ceasefire in Oleshky to Help Residents
A ceasefire has begun in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, giving hope to the people who still live there. This city, which had 24,000 people before the war, has been under Russian control since early 2022.
Around 6,000 people, including many children, remain in the city, facing extreme hardship. There are no open shops, and basic services like electricity, gas, and water have been unavailable for three years. Ukraine has tried to send supplies, but it is too dangerous to travel. The White House announced last week that a ceasefire was arranged to help the people.
The ceasefire is planned to allow for a humanitarian operation and help residents who want to leave. People are hopeful to evacuate, but they also worry about what might happen after they leave.
